About $2k. Call it $4500 if you go full tubular k-member, A-arms and coil-overs, but I don't think that's necessary if you're not racing it competitively.
The biggest thing to remember is that the nick-name for the 79-04 rear suspension is "quadra-bind" because the rear suspension actually binds up (and adds spring rate) as it goes through it's motions. That is bad. That's why when people do a 3-link (torque arm) set-up, they have to change to stiffer rear springs. A torque arm can, and will, help at the drag strip too, by planting the rear end better. Note: the S197 Mustangs are 3-link with a panhard rod.
Don't fall into the trap of stiffer bushings in the current geometry rear end either, it will only make the binding worse.
